I was ready to give up on TERA. The action-combat MMORPG enjoyed a resurgence of interest after it converted to free-to-play and rechristened itself as TERA: Rising in February of last year, but the subsequent patches give little indication of what it was rising toward, if anything. But then, somewhat out of nowhere, Korean developer Bluehole and its American publisher En Masse announced the upcoming Fate of Arun expansion, and what I saw during a brief hands-on preview recently is enough to make me consider revisiting Arborea for a spell.
The action takes place in Northern Arun, which means we'll probably end up playing its skimpily dressed heroes on the back and shoulders of one of the two sleeping titans that serve as the world's continents. I didn't get to see much during my hour-long session, but what I did see proves that Bluehole hasn't forgotten that the game's visual beauty is as much a part of its appeal as its combat.
