For anyone who’s a fan of the Final Fantasy series, there are a number of features we expect to see in new instalments of the franchise if we’re to be satisfied. There’s the pom-pom headed Moogles and the big yellow Chocobos. There’s the prickly Cactuars and the inclusion of airships. And then there’s the magnificent scores, the vast majority of which come courtesy of Nobuo Uematsu, a man whose name is synonymous with the series.
Earlier this week, we joined Uematsu at London’s famous Abbey Road studios, where he’s recording a new album of Final Fantasy arrangements with the London Symphony Orchestra. As someone who grew up playing the Final Fantasy games, and was brought to tears by the Ending Theme in Final Fantasy X, it was a surreal experience. Speaking to the man himself, it seems he was rather bemused at being there too.
