Guillermo del Toro's A Killing on Carnival Row has been in the works for a while, but the director has finally returned to the project. However, it will now be an Amazon series instead of a feature film.
Del Toro will co-write the pilot of the series -- now with the shortened title Carnival Row -- alongside Pacific Rim writer Travis Beacham, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The filmmaker will also direct the first episode, as well as executive produce the series with Beacham and Gary Unger, who also exec produces del Toro's The Strain.
Carnival Row has been in the works since 2005 when New Line picked up the script. The project went through several directors, the last of which being Tarsem Singh in 2011, but by then no studio wanted to take the risk. This past year, Legendary picked up the script and will co-develop the series with Amazon Studios.
