When the second week of Galavant kicked off with a musical recap, I got my hopes up we'd hear them every week. But alas, it hasn't happened again. That bummer out of the way, the penultimate episode of Galavant took some mostly interesting turns and a weird twist. Some of it furthered the plot, some of it enriched the world, and some of it felt a little like filler. Still, "My Cousin Izzy" wrapped up without laying down any obvious signs about the ending of Season 1 and that deserves respect.
The first scene was a winner because Anthony Head stepped in as Galavant's father. Any time you get to hear him sing, it's a good day. His cameo was all too short, but he did lay down a recurring joke and song for the episode and the flashback was effective at showing us part of why Galavant is the way he is. And the "Moment in the Sun" song? Fantastic. Joshua Sasse sung the hell out of it repeatedly. The final gag for the song totally worked too.
