An all new version of The Odd Couple, based on Neil Simon's play (and subsequent famous 60s film and hit 70s TV sitcom), is headed to CBS on Thursday, February 19th, starring Matthew Perry and Thomas Lennon in the iconic Oscar Madison and Felix Unger roles.
The creators and cast, which also consists of ex-Community star Yvette Nicole Brown and The Wire/Treme's Wendell Pierce, appeared at the Television Critics Association press tour to talk about the idea behind resurrecting The Odd Couple in 2015.
"I think it’s such an elastic concept," executive producer Bob Daily said of the story. "I mean, the DNA of those two characters has seeped into television for the last four decades. I spent five years writing on Frasier, and Frasier was basically The Odd Couple with one Oscar and two Felixes. Bert and Ernie are The Odd Couple. Those two characters, Oscar and Felix, are so iconic and they’re so timeless."
