Warning: Full spoilers for the episode follow...
The Meagle marriage may have been at the center of "Donna and Joe," but Donna and Joe themselves, for the most part, were not. Which I think was the smart play considering that Donna, as a character, works best as an accentuater (a word I think I just made up) and not as the driving focus of a story. The concept of Meagle family drama was good for a few laughs though, especially the idea that the "nicey-meany" clan spans the globe (Berlin Meagles?).
The marriage, while not as much of a grand, investable spectacle as Ben and Leslie's nuptials, became an event that allowed other stories to open up (Ben running for congress), series favorites to return (Jen Barkley, Gayle Gergich, Ginuwine, Typhoon), and new characters to pop in (Rachel Dratch as Roz, Questlove as Lavondrius, and LESLIE'S KIDS!). So it was a triumph in that regard. There was a lot happening all over the place, and no I'm not talking about long-held grudges over Dig Dug.
