The Americans: "Salang Pass" Review IGN All

Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.


Another week where I have to apologize for a tardy review - though last week, it resulted in more clicks and comments than usual, so maybe I should be late with my Americans review every week?


Yeah, things are getting ickier with Philip and Kimmy, but how could it not? It’s just an awful situation and the fact that Elizabeth can’t even tell him, “No, you should not sleep with this 15 year old girl!” when he asks her point blank is all kinds of messed up, yet understandable, given what we know about these characters and their situation at this point.


The Americans is so impressive because it can function both as an actual Cool Spy Show and also a deconstruction of a spy show. From the start, it’s taken a very frank, un-romanticized approach to what it would actually mean to have to seduce people as part of your job, with stakes this high. This episode took that even further with the flashbacks to Philip’s “training”, as he slept with all types of people, with the thought obviously being that you never know what the mission might call for and who needs to be honey trapped. And now the next “target” is this young, vulnerable girl.
