The Blacklist: Midseason Premiere Review IGN All

The James Spader Show is back for 2015 and it’s still the same series as always: we’re either watching Red or we’re waiting to get back to him, with no in between. Although at first “Luther Braxton” was looking like the show was taking full advantage of its post-Super Bowl slot by pulling out the stops for their most intense hour since Season 1's two-part “Anslo Garrick”, it soon got bogged down in the same place they tend to: back with the FBI. But while it couldn’t maintain the excitement of the opening scenes it remained an enjoyable hour, thanks once again to Spader’s performance.


This was one of the fastest starts the series has ever gotten off to, with news clips giving us a short sketch of the situation and the FBI quickly realizing that Red fully intended to get locked up at the CIA black site. With the countermoves of Luther and his team having already done the same, the beginning of the episode was an exciting cat-and-mouse game with the people in charge having to play the most catch-up, a situation that Red tends to savor.
