Although Stanley Kubrick destroyed most of the props and costumes from 1968's 2001: A Space Odyssey, the Aries 1B Trans-Kunar Space Shuttle remained intact and was just sold for a hefty price.
At Premiere Props' Hollywood Extravaganza Auction, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences shelled out $344,000 USD (£233,000 GBP/$451,000 AUD) for the shuttle, which stands at 32 inches tall, 27 inches wide and 28 inches deep.
Since the 1970s, the shuttle has remained in the care of an art teacher in England, who was given the shuttle under the condition he use the electronics to teach students about technology.
