Whenever a new creative team takes over an existing property, especially one so revered as Matt Fraction and David Aja's Hawkeye, there's an almost instinctual need to dislike the new guys. It's not a purposeful spite, at least it shouldn't be, but more of a "Get off my lawn!" mentality of liking things one way and one way only. As such, Jeff Lemire and Ramón Pérez faced an unenviable task. Their All-New Hawkeye had to somehow be both new and familiar, different enough to set it apart but recognizable enough to appease a fervent fan base. It's a challenge as tough as any a creative team will face, and it also happens to be one they wholly and completely nail.
It's no secret that Jeff Lemire knows his way around a bow. Having already notched a stellar run featuring another blond haired archer in his quiver, Lemire's first turn at a Marvel property proves an instant success. The writer shows a clear appreciation for that which came before, utilizing various character specific relationships and quirks to prove that our Clint is still alive and well.
