The struggling DreamWorks Animation received some good news this weekend. Their latest release Home debuted atop the domestic box office with an estimated $54 million, ahead of the studio's last Fox-released pic, How to Train Your Dragon 2 ($49.5 million).
The star power and social media reach of Home's voice talent -- Rihanna, Jim Parsons and Jennifer Lopez -- as well as an aggressive marketing campaign paid off for DWA, which had a truly lousy 2014.
The new R-rated comedy Get Hard also performed well. The Will Ferrell-Kevin Hart flick debuted in second place with an estimated $34.6 million, making it the highest R-rated opening in both Hart and Ferrell's careers.
The acclaimed horror film It Follows expanded into wider release this week for a fifth place finish of $4 million.
