A team of researchers have developed a technology that could eventually replace batteries in wearable technology.
By combining tiny devices called triboelectric nanogenerators - TNGs for short - with a silicon-based organic material and a special textile coated in nanorods, these scientists have created fabric that generates energy from everyday human movement. Because they harvest their energy from the wearer, these devices would not require any external power source.
According to the research team, this creation could have a number of important effects, including the ability to charge wearable devices ranging from communication to medical technology.
