Girl Meets World: Season 1 Review IGN All

As a followup to ABC's beloved sitcom Boy Meets World, Girl Meets World offered a solid continuation of the original series, catering to fans young and old alike. While not quite as hard-hitting or grounded as Boy, the Disney Channel spinoff did a fairly good job of capturing the spirit of what the old show was all about, even if it took some trial and error in getting there. Even now, at the end of Season 1, Girl Meets World has some kinks to work out, but the future looks bright for the Matthews family and its ever-growing cast of returning characters.


Suffice to say, series star Rowan Blanchard had big shoes to fill as the daughter of Gen Y's "It" couple, Cory and Topanga Matthews. But if there's one thing Girl Meets World absolutely got right, it was casting Blanchard as Riley. Not only does the actress have the same go-getter spunk of predecessor Ben Savage, but she also nails the wide-eyed innocence that made Cory such a lovable lead in the original. The same can be said for co-star Sabrina Carpenter, whose Maya Hart is the perfect spiritual successor to Shawn Hunter. Together, Blanchard and Carpenter make a great team, and they established a firm bedrock in Season 1 for the show to build on.
