This issue marks the conclusion of Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley’s first and only story arc on Avengers Assemble. From beginning to end, it set out to take the Avengers movie cast and pit them against the villain that was revealed in the mid-credits scene, Thanos. Only, the story felt like the Tony Stark and Rocket Raccoon show most of the time, and Thanos lost any cool factor he had going thanks to his bland portrayal. If you were looking for a book to get you excited for the Avengers 2 movie, then look elsewhere.
Iron Man deals with the problem of Thanos wielding a man-made Cosmic Cube by talking the problem to death. The plot points were laid out throughout the series, and now Iron Man points them out and puts them to use with a literal deus ex machina. Huge turning points come up every few pages, making for a rushed and haphazard reading experience. Don’t know who those big spacey characters are? Too bad, because there will be no explanation here.
