Gunn Apologizes for Blog Controversy IGN All

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has stepped forward to address the recent controversy surrounding a two-year-old blog post he wrote titled "The 50 Superheroes You Most Want to Have Sex With." The article recently garnered some attention from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation for its graphic language and depiction of women, gays and lesbians.

Here's the apology that was issued by Gunn yesterday on his official Facebook page:

"A couple of years ago I wrote a blog that was meant to be satirical and funny. In rereading it over the past day I don't think it's funny. The attempted humor in the blog does not represent my actual feelings. However, I can see where statements were poorly worded and offensive to many. I'm sorry and regret making them at all.

Sniper Defeats Taeja (2-1) in LR5 of IPL5. IGN All

Game 1 on Metropolis

Sniper stays true to his reputation as a macro zerg and opens up with an economic build, dropping three hatcheries while mining gas. Taeja opens with a command center and builds five hellions, which he uses to control the Xel'Naga Tower. Sniper transitions into mutalisks with a strong ling-baneling ground force.

Taeja attempts several marine drops, however, he is thwarted by Sniper, who has complete vision of the map due to key overlords and creepspread. Sniper makes a tech switch from brood lords to ultralisks, which proves a huge danger to Taeja's marine-tank force. Sniper pushes one final time into Taeja's forces with a mass of ultralisks, zerglings, banelings, and brood lords and annihilates Taeja's army, taking game one.

Japanese Toy-Maker to Test 60 mph One-Man Helicopter in 2013 IGN All

Hirobo, the Japanese toy company behind those remote control helicopters you've seen at the mall, is on the cusp of achieving its ultimate purpose: personal electric-powered helicopters.

Apparently called the "Bit," Hirobo's magnum opus will be capable of flying high and fast enough to be very dangerous (i.e. awesome). So before taking it to market they'll be conducting extensive safety tests starting next year - presumably to make sure it won't just spontaneously blow up.

If you're lucky, you'll be able to get the Bit up to 60 mph for as long as 30 minutes (although if you're unlucky, you'll probably crash it going even faster). This is all assuming you've got $375,000 to buy one. You've got $375,000 right?

Hero Worship: Why JGL as Batman Would Be a Mistake IGN All

About a year and a half ago, I did an iteration of Hero Worship called Why the Justice League Movie is a Terrible Idea, a column I stand by. This past week, there were Hollywood rumblings about Joseph Gordon-Levitt taking part in the film in the role of Batman, almost certainly continuing the role of John Blake and picking up from the end of The Dark Knight Rises. Even more than trying to scrape together a team movie out of thin air, this would castrate any chances WB has of building a mega superhero franchise to rival that of The Avengers.

To be clear, at this point, it’s still speculation. JGL’s representation has refuted the claims. Still, you never know. Hollywood refutes everything until it happens. If this were to be the case, it would be an attempt by WB to build something out of nothing; to retroactively shoe-horn Christopher Nolan’s Batman films as a precursor to a larger shared universe, despite numerous declarations over the last seven years that they are not intended to exist in a greater DC Universe. Don’t get me wrong – I adore JGL and I’d love to see some John Blake Batman stories. Or, better yet, more Anne Hathaway Catwoman. But a foundation for Justice League, that is not.

Bates Motel: See the First Footage IGN All

While we know it will focus on the relationship between a young Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) and his mother, Norma (Vera Farmiga), it's still not quite clear just what to expect from A&E's upcoming Psycho prequel series, Bates Motel, each week. Is Norman already a killer? Is Norma one? Will we see a number of twisted individuals check in (but not always out) of the motel?

The first footage released from the series doesn't really answer these questions, but these two very brief teasers do hint at some very dark events occurring... whatever the context for them is.

Walking Dead Actor Joins Stephen King's Mercy IGN All

Leenock Defeats TheStC (2-0) in WR5 of IPL5. IGN All

Game 1 on Entombed Valley

Leenock opens up with a fifteen-hatch and mines gas relatively early. TheStC opens normally with one barracks and a command center. He then builds double factory, indicating blue flame hellion. With the extra gas, Leenock goes for fast infestors and lacks the proper defense for the mobile hellions, which wreck havoc on his natural.

Leenock defends though TheStC has done significant economic damage. Leenock counters with his infestors and is able to even up the battle by taking out several SCVs. The Zerg techs up to brood lords, whereas TheStC commits to a heavy mech build, teching up with Thors. Once he scouts the brood lords, TheStC queues up vikings. However, he does not have enough to combat Leenock's incredible air force and he gives up the first game to Leenock.

Ouya Developers Kits Now Shipping IGN All

In a recent update, the Ouya team has announced that on December 28th, developer kits will be en route, which means - despite the crazy unforeseen demand - the Ouya is still shipping on time.

Developer consoles are early working versions (not prototypes) of the hardware pledgers will receive. Julie Urhman mentioned in the update that there's something special about dev consoles and that it would be immediately clear in which way upon opening. (our guess is special colors, or signatures.)

They'll also be loaded with the Ouya Development Kit (ODK) - a software that will help developers insure their games work correctly.

Polt Defeats Creator 2-0 in WR5 of IPL5. IGN All

Game 1 on Entombed Valley

Polt commits to an economic build, going command center first. Creator responds by warping Nexus first after gateway. In an unorthodox move, he goes for early upgrades as opposed to a robotics facility. He then builds a twilight council followed immediately by a templar archives to research storm.

At the twelve minute mark, Polt builds his fourth command center and continues to research upgrades. He masses his bio force of marauders and marines, whereas Creator builds up a Protoss ball of death consisting of colossi, stalkers, and zealots. The battle culminates into an intense base trade, which Polt is able to win thanks to vikings back home (which eliminate all the colossi) and he takes the first game.

Savages Blu-ray Review IGN All

Oliver Stone lets what could have been a simple, effective crime thriller sprawl out of control and become a bit of an over-inflated mess with Savages, starring Taylor Kitsch (John Carter) and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass) as a "good-vibes" O.C. mega pot-business duo who seek payback against a Mexican cartel led by Salma Hayek after she kidnaps their shared surfer-girl, O, played by Blake Lively (Green Lantern).

Regardless of the fact that this story centers on uber-privileged, beautiful young white people, I kind of liked the first half hour and was intrigued by the notion that Ben (Taylor-Johnson) believed he could run a clean, green drug empire without sounding any alarms. And while I never found O to be nearly charismatic enough to warrant her being the voice-over narrator, the whole three-way love nest she, Ben and Chon (Kitsch) had created for themselves was something I hadn't ever seen portrayed before (with the intention of drawing in my emotional investment).

Xbox 720 Reportedly Coming Holiday 2013 IGN All

Microsoft is reportedly planning to release its next console in time for the 2013 holiday season. According to a new rumor from Bloomberg, people “familiar with the company’s plans” say the new system is aiming to take advantage of Thanksgiving and Christmas sales, though the sources chose to remain anonymous “because the product road map is confidential.”

Microsoft is said to still be deciding when the console will be revealed, currently weighing a reveal at E3 against a separate, dedicated event like the announcement of the Xbox 360 in 2005.

Last Resort: "Big Chicken Dinner" Review IGN All

Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.

My apologies, I have to keep this review short, as I’m on a work trip in Vancouver. Which may be for the best, since I was not a fan of this episode, as much as I really like Last Resort overall.

Overall, the whole situation this week felt too Law and Order: Sainte Marina and in way too big a rush, as we quickly jumped into a trial after Anders was accused of rape by a local girl – And man, the trial was over in two seconds, wasn’t it?

The idea of an islander accusing one of the Colorado crew of rape certainly could have made for a compelling and dark story, but it just felt very awkward here – the fact that we didn’t know the girl at all and barely knew Anders leant it that procedural “here are some random characters in the middle of a crisis” feel, and the revelation about Grace’s own rape also felt rather clumsily included – I like Grace a lot and this should have been a reveal that packed a wallop, but it just felt kind of there and random in the way it was suddenly brought into the story.

30 Rock Exits, Do No Harm Enters IGN All

NBC will premiere the new drama Do No Harm, starring Rescue Me’s Steven Pasquale, on Thursday, January 31 (10 p.m. ET) following the hour-long series finale of 30 Rock (8 p.m. ET). The show appears to be a contemporary Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde riff, and actually seems fairly interesting.

Tolkien fans have eagerly been anticipating their first look at the evil dragon Smaug from the Hobbit trilogy, who director Peter Jackson has said will cameo in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Reminder: Mass Effect Comes to PS3 Very Soon IGN All

Back in September, it was revealed that Mass Effect Trilogy would be coming out, putting together all three Mass Effect games into one tidy package. Interestingly, the trilogy would also be coming to PlayStation 3, proving that the incredibly unlikely would happen: the Microsoft-published original Mass Effect would be coming to Sony’s console. This was once thought impossible, or at the very least exceptionally unrealistic.

But it’s so! And I wanted to remind PlayStation gamers to keep an eye out for the Trilogy beginning on Tuesday, December 4th in North America and Friday, December 7th in Europe (it was already released on Xbox 360 and PC). It’s important to remember that the original Mass Effect will also be available to download all by itself on the PlayStation Network if you already own Mass Effect 2 and 3 and simply want to get in on the original.

Symbol Takes Out IPL4 Champ aLive 2-0 in WR4 of IPL5 IGN All

Game 1 on Daybreak

Symbol mines gas early, preparing for a roach rush, whereas aLive opts for a hellion-banshee build. His hellions scout the incoming roach force, so aLive keeps his banshee at home to handle the aggression. With roaches and banelings, Symbol kills eight SCVs and does some economic damage to the Terran.

aLive counters with banshee harassment and marine drop play, which Symbol handles with fungals. aLive prepares for a 2-2 timing attack, while Symbol falls behind in army composition. To catch up, Symbol delays aLive with zergling harassment at his worker line so that he may build up to ultralisk tech.
