Journey Into Mystery #646 Review IGN All

I've spent the better part of two years raving about the quality of Kieron Gillen's Journey Into Mystery run. Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and so it was with Gillen's saga of Loki. But Journey Into Mystery lives on in Marvel NOW! The book has a new writer, new artists, and a new lead character. I didn't come into Journey Into Mystery #646 expecting Kathryn Immonen to immediately blow the doors out and wipe away the memory of Gillen's run. And so I was pleasantly surprised to find a book that feels similar in tone but not afraid to carve its own path.


Immonen casts Sif in the lead. Here the decision to retain the old title and numbering makes sense. I wouldn't expect a new series called "Lady Sif" to last more than a few months before being canceled, but retaining a more familiar name and numbering at least gives the book a fighting chance. Immonen kicks off her story in the immediate aftermath of the Everything Burns crossover. Asgard is saved once more, but the weary Sif is beginning to doubt that the endless cycle of destruction and rebuilding is serving any purpose.
