Yesterday evening, we posted a story describing Wii U's new friend system. We were seemingly running into some strange delays as we exchanged IDs and made requests, but everything seemed to make sense. Today, after doing plenty more experimentation, we've realized that this system is not as logical as it seems. In fact, some of our assumptions about how the process should work were clouding some of the considerable flaws in how Nintendo has built its friends system.
This much still applies - Friend Codes are gone. No more dozen digits. Instead, you have a simple Nintendo Network ID (that isn't the same as your Mii Nickname and isn't your e-mail address) that you serves as the key piece of information you need to provide others. From there, things get complicated.
