Warning: Full spoilers for the episode follow...
It's incredible the impact that the final few moments of an episode can have. Generally speaking, "Paper Airplane" was enjoyable. It continued on with the positive track the show has been on recently with a nice balance between the characters and a "classic" Office feel to the storylines. Those last few moments absolutely nailed it, though, and easily elevated "Paper Airplane" to one of the best episodes of this season to date.
The joy and relief I felt at the close of the episode was palpable. Not so much because Jim and Pam are going to be okay - though that's nice, I am happy about that - but more because the show had finally decided to commit to treating these characters as if they were the fully realized, fleshed-out, interesting creations that we have known for nearly a decade - rather than as plot devices. The Office has had some of the most exemplary writing on television over the course of its 9-year run. The jokes were, in moments, as sharp, surprising and gut-busting as one could hope for.
