In a lot of ways, this is the ending of a grand story Mark Waid has been telling since he took over Daredevil. Every play has lead to this, and every villain's motivation comes to a head here. There are moments that are incredibly dark, that hint at the kind of past Daredevil has had, the kind of stories that are usually told with this character. What makes this thing work, what makes it so clearly Waid's take on the character, is the brightness that shines through the darkness. The very last page sums up the previous 27 issues nicely. After all, how could you not have a smile on your face when you're fearless?
