The Flash #21 Review IGN All

Last month, the creative team of Brian Buccellato and Francis Manapul promised one of the more heavily anticipated reunions of the New 52, as Flash and Kid Flash were set on a collision course for one another. Their meeting, however, doesn't quite hit the high notes one might have hoped it would.


If you've been following Teen Titans, you already know that the issue of Bart's origins are mired in mystery. Similarly, this Kid Flash is not the upbeat, impulsive optimist we knew and loved prior to the New 52. While it's exciting to see different sides of characters explored while writers and artists open new avenues for potential story lines, the Bart Allen in The Flash #21 feels unanchored and off-course. Perhaps that was the point -- his churlishness is an uncomfortable contrast to Barry's otherwise steadfast positive attitude. Though this darker Kid Flash could potentially offer a goldmine of interesting plot developments, that sort of foundation isn't quite laid out here.
