Marvel needs more X-Men books like I need a hole in the head. But as DC proved with Batman/Superman today, you can always justify more books featuring the same old characters as long as the creative teams are strong enough. And that's what X-Men has going for it. The conflict in this series is enjoyable, but nothing that couldn't have been chronicled in half a dozen other X-books. But with the tag-team duo of Brian Wood and Olivier Coipel at the helm, "other X-books" just wouldn't cut it.
