Nintendo Suspends Swapnote Due to “Offensive Material” IGN All

Nintendo has disabled the ability for 3DS owners to send and receive Spotpass notes via Swapnote (or Nintendo Letter Box in other regions) after discovering some users have been using the service to transfer offensive material.

“Nintendo has learned that some consumers, including minors, have been exchanging their friend codes on Internet bulletin boards and then using Swapnote (known as Nintendo Letter Box in other regions) to exchange offensive material,” reads a Nintendo statement on the company’s website. “Nintendo has been investigating ways of preventing this and determined it is best to stop the SpotPass feature of Swapnote because it allows direct exchange of photos and was actively misused.”

Ubisoft Kills Online Pass System, Effective Immediately IGN PS3

Ubisoft has dropped its online pass system, effective immediately. The Uplay Passport code needed to unlock the online features of the recently-released Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will now be provided free-of-charge, and Uplay Passports will no longer be a part of any future Ubisoft games.

Like similar Online Pass systems, the Uplay Passport program required players to activate a unique code only available with new copies of the game. Secondhand purchasers, or those who had borrowed the game, would be required to purchase their own Uplay Passport for an additional fee.

Player feedback, however, has seen Ubisoft now shun the scheme.

“Assassin’s Creed fans, we heard you loud and clear,” writes communications manager Gary Steinman on the Ubisoft Blog.

The Walking Dead: First Look Image from Sunday's Episode IGN All

Ah, going for a supply run on The Walking Dead... That rarely goes well, does it? It certainly was tough, to say the least, in the Season 4 premiere, what with the zombies crashing through the ceiling and all. But still, when you need supplies, you need supplies, and so on this coming Sunday's new episode of The Walking Dead, a group sets out from the prison to a local college - only to run into multiple hurdles. But we'll see if this group's situation is prefferable to what's going on back at the prison, where things are getting worse.

We've got an exclusive image for you from the next episode of The Walking Dead, "Indifference," featuring Michonne on that aforementioned supply run. It certainly looks like something or someone is giving her pause - and not in a good way.

Saved by the Bell: The Complete Collection DVD Review IGN All

Morris. Powers. Kapowski. Slater. Turtle. Spano. Belding. Legends.

Is Saved by the Bell a good show? Not really. Is it an incredibly watchable show? Hell yes. Since 1989, the story of Zack Morris and his classmates has proven to be a continually popular and shockingly iconic piece of TV history. Whether you first saw it as a kid who looked up to the characters or as an older viewer who watched it all ironically, there was something about this show that struck a chord and many of us are likely way too familiar with these episodes than we should admit.

Considering how popular Saved by the Bell has continued to be through the years, it’s surprising it took this long to get a complete series collection (in the US that is - Canada got one last year!). But yes, here it is at last, Season 1-5 of the series, in one box set. Though just how “complete” you consider this collection to be is debatable.

New Microsoft Privacy Statement Explains How Xbox One’s Kinect Collects Data IGN All

In an updated privacy statement available to view here Microsoft has detailed how the Xbox One’s Kinect will use any data it collects during play. Xbox One owners are advised details about your appearance gleaned from Kinect’s facial recognition technology will be totally private, but are also reminded not to expect any level of privacy while chatting over the service.

In order to use the camera to sign you in, Kinect “measures distances between key points on your face to create a numeric value that represents only you.” This information stays on your console and is not shared. The value itself is stored as a “very long set of numbers” and, according to Microsoft, “

George Romero Turned Down The Walking Dead IGN All

George 'Night of the Living Dead' Romero turned down the offer to direct episodes of The Walking Dead, claiming it was was more "soap opera" than zombie TV show.

“They asked me to do a couple of episodes of The Walking Dead but I didn’t want to be a part of it,” Romero told The Big Issue. “Basically it’s just a soap opera with a zombie occasionally. I always used the zombie as a character for satire or a political criticism and I find that missing in what’s happening now.”

Romero is commonly acknowledged to be the 'godfather' of the zombie movie, ushering the horror sub genre into mainstream consciousness through his Night of the Living Dead series.

Sleepaway Camp Reboot Planned IGN All

At first glance, 1983's Sleepaway Camp might be considered a pretty standard slasher flick, but as fans know, it was the film's shocking twist ending that raised it to cult status. Sadly, as with many '80s horror films, the franchise later suffered a slew of sequels ranging from good to godawful.

That is why producer Jeff Katz thinks it's time for a reboot. According to Deadline, Katz recently optioned remake rights from the original film's rights holders: writer-director Robert Hiltzik, producer Michele Tatosian, and star Felissa Rose, who starred in the 1983 original as Angela Baker, the bullied female lead whose summer camp turns into a bloodbath when a mysterious killer starts offing campers.

Bill Murray Is a Ghost, if Not a Ghostbuster IGN All

follows two bumbling apparitions who find themselves in an extraordinary afterlife adventure when they join the Bureau of Otherworldly Operations (B.O.O.) -- the ghost world’s elite counter-haunting unit -- and ultimately must face off against the planet’s greatest haunter.”

Murray will offer up his dulcet tones as the bad-guy ghost Addison Drake, who apparently needs to be busted. Jennifer Coolidge and Octavia Spencer have joined the film too, with Seth Rogen, Melissa McCarthy, Rashida Jones, and Matt Bomer all previously announced as part of the cast. Why Doesn't Xbox One Have a First-Party FPS at Launch? IGN All

Shooters, and first-person shooters, in particular, have arguably always been the preeminent genre on Xbox platforms, starting with Xbox 1 coming right out of the gate with Halo: Combat Evolved. Microsoft also had a first-party FPS, Perfect Dark Zero, out for the launch of Xbox 360, and while that game didn't live up to the legacy of Perfect Dark nor Halo, it was still a Microsoft-published shooter on day one. No equivalent game is on the slate of Xbox One launch titles, something which stems from Microsoft not taking a "genre focus" when evaluating its software portfolio.

"When I think about launch portfolios and, really, the portfolio all up, I tend not to take a real genre focus on trying to fill a specific hole in a portfolio," said Microsoft Game Studios corporate VP Phil Spencer on the latest episode of Podcast Unlocked. "In a lot of ways, the 360 has been home to many of the great first-person shooters. Halo at the original Xbox launch was incredible. You've seen Call of Duty, you see Battlefield, you see a lot of great games coming. For us, it was really just about finding the great games where the timing lined up for the creative to actually land at launch with an amazing game, you want to make sure you have great visuals. ...It isn't really something we focused on; we wanted to make sure we had great core games, great games for everybody. I feel great about the launch lineup all up."

Free Birds Review IGN All

In one 40-second stretch of the Thanksgiving-themed animated comedy Free Birds, a Pilgrim mother calls a hungry boy “fatty,” a man named Mr. Sardine drops his bowl of tiny fishes on to a pizza and inadvertently inventing the topping, a Native American compares said sardines to smelly socks but admits they're still better than his wife's cooking, and then behind him runs another man pretending his slice of pizza is his... manhood.

The string of gags sums up the latest from Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears a Who!, Jonah Hex), another act of anthropomorphic animal antics that's more down-the-middle befuddling than uproarious or excruciatingly painful.

In Free Birds, a duo of turkeys time travel back to Plymouth Colony's first Thanksgiving in hopes of swaying them away from consuming what would become the traditional bird of choice. The movie operates with the same logic, heart, and passable animation quality as a standard Saturday morning cartoon -- which is slightly less tolerable when extended to 90 minutes. Will the wee ones laugh? Yes. Will they be aching to get the hell out of there when adorable baby turkeys run scarce and the final act runs completely dry of humor? Probably.

Why Nintendo Is Offering a Free Wii Fit U Trial IGN All

In a recent presentation to investors, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata explained why offering a month's free trial for Wii Fit U will benefit sales of both the game and the Wii U in the long run.

Any Wii owners that also own a Wii Balance Board can download a free trial of Wii Fit U if they upgrade to Nintendo's newest console. While some might question the tactic, considering Wii Sports and Wii Fit were two of last generation's best-selling games, the company has other plans.

"...Some investors and analysts may be wondering why we would ever distribute a game that is guaranteed to sell well free of charge," Iwata said during the briefing. "However, under the current circumstances in which Wii U has lost its launch-period momentum we find ourselves in a situation where it is difficult to turn the attention of those who do not actively engage with games to Wii U; we felt that it would be difficult to hope that advertising and releasing our games in a standard fashion would be sufficient to create enough buzz in society."

Rare Hasn't Been Designated a Kinect-Only Developer IGN All

It seems as if anytime Rare's name has been mentioned in an official capacity over the past five years, it's been connected to the development of a Kinect game. The various iterations of Kinect Sports have represented the bulk of its output over the past half decade, and when the developer talks about revisiting some of its classic franchises -- among them Perfect Dark, Conker's Bad Fur Day, and Banjo-Kazooie -- it talks about using Kinect to do so. Despite this, Microsoft has not pigeonholed Rare into the role of exclusively developing games for Kinect, and a more traditional game could be in its future.

Ash and The Army of Darkness picks up exactly were Army of Darkness leaves off. In fact, the first 5 or 6 pages are basically an adaptation of the end of the movie. What that means, essentially, is that fans of the Army of Darkness film will love this comic, but newcomers need not apply. I'm a long time Army of Darkness fan, so I thought this was crazy good.
