The theme of duality is a common element in Batman's gallery of rogues. The Joker represents the Dark Knight's polar opposite; Harvey Dent quite literally embodies two sides of the same coin. And now, Wrath is joining their ranks as one of those villains who couldn't quite exist in a story without Batman to act as his foil. Caldwell, Wrath's civilian mask, is the man Bruce Wayne could have been had his desire for vengeance trumped his thirst for justice. It's a well-considered sentiment, but writer John Layman wears it a bit thin by bludgeoning the reader over the head with it in Detective Comics #24.
