Revolution continues to show marked improvement in Season 2. “There Will Be Blood” delivered an hour of TV that was simultaneously darker and funnier than the show was in the past, with lots of clever plot turns along the way.
Miles and Charlie in parallel stories as prisoners could have felt annoying, but both were in such different circumstances, it worked. Charlie’s refusal to give Monroe a bit of sympathy -- “Did it ever occur to you maybe you sucked at your job?” -- while also bonding with her kindly bounty hunter captor nicely set up a new “hunt for Monroe” storyline, when he escaped at the end.
As for Miles, his storyline perfectly capture the aforementioned increase in humor and darkness. Learning Mason became sheriff because of his father’s story of the great Texas Ranger, Walker -- “His legend is known far and wide” -- only to then have Mason coldly shot and killed a minute later set the stage for what was to follow. Miles was trapped in a horrific situation and even some kick ass axe-wielding at one point only temporarily helped him.
