The Weinstein Company is looking to grow its brand with an aggressive push to television.
The New York Times reports that brothers Harvey and Bob Weinstein wish to test whether or not they can increase their success on the small screen. This push will tentatively include more than half a dozen new scripted series.
Proposed series include the previously announced MTV "Scream" series, ancient Egyptian detective drama Book of the Dead, martial arts adventure series Marco Polo -- presumably based on the Italian merchant's journeys throughout Asia -- and a 10-episode 10 Commandments series, which may feature a different director -- including Lee Daniels, Madonna, and Wes Craven, among others -- overseeing each Commandment-based episode. They are also looking at a potential 10-part TV version of The Mist, inspired by the Frank Darabont-directed film, based on Stephen King's story.
