At this point, the X-Factor name is synonymous with Peter David. David has already had two acclaimed runs on different incarnations of the series, with the latter spanning nearly a decade and over a hundred issues. But to some extent, David is his own worst enemy. He allowed readers to fall in love with a group of B-List Marvel mutants as he quietly produced one of the best X-books on the stands. So there's an expectation that the magic is immediately going to materialize on this latest incarnation of X-Factor, and that's not necessarily what happens. All-New X-Factor #1 is a perfectly competent start to the series, but it doesn't hit you in the gut in the same way X-Factor Vol. 2 #1 did in 2005.
