American Horror Story: "...Stevie Nicks" Review IGN All

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode follow…


Naturally, the big news pertaining to tonight's Coven episode, "The Magical Delights of Stevie Nicks," is, well, Stevie Nicks. Appearing as herself, lending credence to both those who think she's a real witch and other fans who just get a kick out of the rumors. But for my money, the best part of the episode was Fringe's Lance Reddick popping in as Papa Legba - the Haitian Crossroads Demon.


As for Nicks, who (and I can't believe I'm writing this) stopped by to play a few tunes, her appearance was less impactful. American Horror Story has always had a flair for flippancy, spinning more than a few conventions on their head over the course of three seasons. But this was the first time I felt it really crawled up its own ass. I get that the tongue-in-cheek cameo of Nicks was too much to resist, but this really felt like an old sitcom trope where a celebrity would stop by, with the added bonus of one of sitcom family members, out of nowhere, being that celeb's biggest fan. Here, at least, the fandom was already built into the show as Misty's been crowing about Nicks since the second episode.
