Damon Lindelof on His HBO Series IGN All

Three years after Lost ended, that show’s co-creator, Damon Lindelof, is making his return to TV this summer with his new HBO series, The Leftovers. Starring Justin Theroux, The Leftovers is based on the book by Tom Perrotta, about what happens after 140 million people simply vanish from the Earth, in a seemingly Rapture-like event.


The series begins three years after the event, nicknamed the Departure, and speaking about the show today at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour, Lindelof stressed the show is not about solving the mystery of what happened. The characters on this show have had to deal with what happened, but there is no explanation forthcoming for it, only theories. Said Lindelof, “Hopefully what you’ll care about when you watch the show more and more is how these characters are living with this situation and interacting with each other and less about what happened and where everybody went and why.”
