What a vital year 2013 was. After years of stalling momentum the games industry burst into life again, with two new console launches that exceeded even optimistic sales expectations and the biggest video game ever released in the form of Grand Theft Auto V. There were endless stories to cover. The back-and-forth between Sony and Microsoft provided a highly entertaining narrative for the games media for the whole year. E3 was an explosion of activity and announcements and amusing corporate bombast. We didn’t see too many brilliant games for those new consoles, but those will come. It was a year of tremendous change and revitalisation for the business side of gaming.
