Nintendo showed off the first prototype of an NFC figurine for the Wii U during an investor's meeting, and unsurprisingly, it's Mario.
President Satoru Iwata said that Nintendo plans to reveal more about the company's NFC initiative (think Skylanders or Disney Infinity) at E3, which it's calling codename NFP — for NFC Featured Platform and Nintendo Figurine Platform. In addition, the figures are set to work across multiple titles — and both platforms, Wii U and 3DS — instead of just being relegated to functioning with one game.
Pokemon Rumble U was Nintendo's first foray in NFC figurines, but this new initiative appears to be a much bigger push into the toy and video game market. Iwata's meeting with shareholders was to discuss Nintendo's rough financial year.
