Jax and SAMCRO had their hands full in this week's Sons of Anarchy between dealing with drug dealers with itchy trigger fingers and getting detoured trying to clean up a mess they created when they killed some people by mistake in the season premiere. But it was the escalation of the gang war in the final moments of the episode that will likely have the most ramifications.
The show is now four episodes into the final season and there hasn’t been a hint yet that Jax suspects anything other than what Gemma told him about Tara’s death. Although I appreciate a slow build of tension, the detour in this week’s episode as they tried to get a deal of August's back on track was the first that felt like the show was treading water in order to delay the revelation about Tara. Sure, Jax didn’t want August to be overly suspicious, but SAMCRO went to a lot of trouble – digging up bodies, risking a gunfight – to avoid something that was only a possibility. Maybe if the storyline with August was tied closer to Jax finding out the truth about Tara it wouldn't have felt as much like a stalling tactic.
