Constantine: "The Darkness Beneath" Review IGN All

While Constantine is shaping up quickly to be a "demon/ghost of the week" series akin to The CW's Supernatural (hopefully also with satisfying seasonal arcs like that show), its second episode - "The Darkness Beneath" - almost served as a co-pilot of sorts given the official introduction of series regular Angélica Celaya as Zed. And so with that debut, and Zed's new alliance with John, the episode was about building up their fast relationship as much as it was about solving the haunted coal mine case.


And for a second series episode, which are often throwaways, the demon mystery was okay. They threw in a few red herrings, including prominent actor James Le Gros in place as the raspy former town preacher, and the old school small town mining community setting gave everything a My Bloody Valentine vibe. And the site of dead miner ghosts comprised of dirt and soot was pretty cool.
