I went into Horrible Bosses 2 with a good mindset. I had seen the first Horrible Bosses when it came out in 2010, and I remember enjoying it. It was by no means the funniest movie I'd seen that year (that was probably Easy A) and it definitely had its flaws, but it was a good way to kill an hour and a half. After that, I forgot all about it and never saw the movie again.
Fast-forward about four years, and I was ready for another misadventure with Nick (Jason Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) and Dale (Charlie Day). What I got from Horrible Bosses 2 was more of the same, but that's about what I expected. It's just a shame that, instead of taking the best parts of the first movie and turning them on its head (à la 22 Jump Street), the sequel riffed on the exact same jokes using the exact same characters and mimicking the exact same structure (à la The Hangover Part II).
