Following a trademark expiration, it looks as though True Crime won’t be getting a sequel, or at least not one under the Activision banner.
The trademark for True Crime (US serial number 78067332) was originally filed on Jun. 05, 2001. However, as of Friday, December 19, 2014, a U.S. federal trademark for the name ‘True Crime’ by Activision Publishing, Inc was abandoned.
What’s not clear at the moment is whether Activision plans to utilise the trademark in the future. As of writing, the US Patent and Trademark Office status currently reads: “Abandoned because the applicant failed to respond or filed a late response to an Office action.”
