The Father of Video Games Has Passed Away IGN All

Ralpha Baer, widely regarded as the Father of Video Games, has passed away, reports say.


Independent sources close to Baer confirmed his death, according to Gamasutra. He was 92 years old.

Baer was born in Germany in 1922, and fled the Nazi-occupied country in 1938. He would go on to become a pioneer in electronics. He created the Brown Box, the first video game console, and it was later sold as the Magnavox Odyssey in 1972, creating the birth of the modern video game industry. He was also awarded the National Medal of Technology by George W. Bush in 2006 for his work in the field.
