Constantine: "A Whole World Out There" Review IGN All

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode follow...


In the Hellblazer comics, it was a lot easier to watch John hop from job to job while utilizing whichever teammates he needed at the time. Friends and frenemies popped in and out in a way that felt more natural than it does on the TV series. Whenever Chas and/or Zed are missing from an episode, it's more notable. And the excuses for their absence feel forced. Now when they're both gone - as was the case with this week's episode, "A Whole World Out There" - it can instantly make an installment feel wonky.


But it wasn't just Chas and Zed being gone (for family time and bed rest, respectively) that made this episode feel out of sorts. The story just didn't feel like a Constantine story. It was a jumble of too many things. Not only did it represent an extreme breather from comic lore, along with the TV show's own "Rising Darkness" arc, it felt like the product of too many studio notes.
