Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.
The second episode of Agent Carter was directed by none other than Joe Russo, co-director (with his brother, Anthony) of Captain America: The Winter Soldier – not to mention a ton of great TV via Arrested Development and Community.
Not surprisingly, Russo did strong work with his installment, which included the clever inclusion of The Captain America Adventure Hour radio show (brought to you by Roxxon Oil!) as a through-line. The radio show worked well on several levels, allowing the show to present a very typical piece of entertainment of that era but also framing it within this universe where Captain America was real – which obviously makes it tough for Peggy to hear, given it was making light entertainment of the man she loved and lost and also presenting the only woman in his life as a shrieking damsel in distress. And then, on a more visceral level, you had the terrific intercutting of the fake radio show violence with the very real fighting going on.
