4: Apocalypse is the latest – and if horror movie marketing is to be believed, the last – entry in the popular Spanish horror franchise. With the previous installment offering a sort of parallel story to the first two films without series mainstay Angela (Manuela Velasco) nor one of the originating directors, Jaume Balaguero, their return in Apocalypse is welcome. Unfortunately,
4 is little more than a generic horror continuation, offering very little to the zombie/infected genre outside of a few tense moments and gory kills.
After being rescued from the quarantined apartment building of the other installments, journalist/possession victim Angela finds herself on a freighter and subject to tests. Naturally, things go awry as the crew becomes infected, paranoia settles in, and the massacre begins.
