Released last fall, the Galaxy Alpha is Samsung's move away from its stubborn insistence on using cheap-feeling materials for phones, with a metal-framed build that looks and feels truly premium. We've seen it since on the large and excellent Galaxy Note 4, and if Samsung's own statements are any indication, we'll surely see it on the Galaxy S5's successor rather soon.
But the Galaxy Alpha—available exclusively in the States through AT&T—isn't just a proof of concept meant to propel Samsung onto bigger and better things: it's also a pretty sharp phone in its own right, albeit with a couple of frustrating concessions and a bloated price tag.
