The agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are close to stepping in front of the camera. Daily Variety’s Marc Graser has tweeted that the ABC/Marvel pilot will begin shooting in just a couple of months - January, 2013.
S.H.I.E.L.D. was one of the first project we knew was in the works for this next pilot season, hence it’s not a surprise it will be one of the first to shoot. Like most pilots, there is no series commitment yet and presumably ABC will be deciding whether to pick the show up in the spring along with their other pilots, once their completed – with the potential to debut as early as September 2013.
Of course, while nothing is certain, it’s hard to see ABC passing on S.H.I.E.L.D., given its ties to The Avengers, the third highest-grossing film ever. Joss Whedon is the co-creator of the potential series, with Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, with Joss expected to direct the pilot. While plot details are being kept under wraps, we know Clark Gregg will star in S.H.I.E.L.D. as his popular Marvel movie character, Agent Phil Coulson, with Ming-Na Wen starring alongside him as Agent Melinda May.
