The Wake, sadly, is ending soon, and issue #8 gets us closer to our conclusion. High flying (and sailing) action, new revelations, and important plot developments will definitely have fans thirsty for more by issue’s end. Though some moments might leave fans scratching their heads, the overall product is a continuation of the same amazing story that fans have come to expect.
With every issue of The Wake, Scott Snyder has shown us that there is always more just underneath the surface than we realize. While the Mers make this a literal truth for our main character, Snyder makes that true for his readers with every new twist and revelation. Since the beginning of this series, the Mers have been painted as bloodthirsty monsters, and while nothing about issue #8 strictly says otherwise, Snyder, almost teasingly, begins to suggest that perhaps something else is going on as well. Readers aren’t left much time to ponder what that might be as more is revealed and some devastating action arises to add a great deal of suspense to the issue. The result is an enticing new direction for our characters that readers will be wanting to see more of, though certain elements of said action are a bit difficult to follow.
