Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.
The wedding night is over and since the final shot of last week's episode was Claire looking at both her rings, it's only appropriate that we jump ahead to the 1940s and touch base with Frank. After recently seeing Tobias Menzies as the sadistic Black Jack Randall, it was jarring to see him as the confused and frustrated Frank. Claire's been missing for six weeks (it feels like longer!) and witnessing Frank's current state was enough to make me feel guilty about enjoying the wedding last week. It was a way to make viewers understand what's happening in Claire's head – you can see why she's torn.
And man, Menzies was again wonderful. You could read the different moments of anger, desperation, and sadness from his expressions. It was heartbreaking. Speaking of his anger, some of Jack's personality shined through when he beat up the guys who tried to rob him (and hey, he used a blackjack club to do it). It makes you wonder about the specifics of his role in the military because he was clearly capable of handling himself in a fight.
