Army of Darkness #1 Review IGN All

STK658022 Dynamite seems awfully fond of relaunching and re-branding the Evil Dead franchise. The hook with this newest volume is pretty simple. Ash is battling Deadites in outer space. There's not much to this first issue apart from that basic concept, but it's enough.


Cullen Bunn takes the reins with this new series, immediately providing a lighthearted counterpoint to his villain-oriented books like Magneto and Sinestro. Bunn seems to recognize the absurdity of the concept and revel in it. This issue is a nonstop barrage of chainsawing and zero-G zombie battles. Bunn also works to catch readers up to speed in terms of Ash's movie adventures and his recent comic book exploits that led up to this new volume. Some of this seems almost unnecessary given the straightforward plot and the focus on gore and one-liners over story, but it never really gets in the way of the fun.
