Each new issue of Swamp Thing becomes more and more bittersweet. Charles Soule is close to wrapping up his run now. There's a palpable tension growing as Alec Holland faces a mounting threat from the Machine Kingdom and what is quickly shaping up to be his greatest challenge of Soule's tenure. There's so little left now, but it's all so good.
We see relatively little of Swamp Thing in this issue, as Soule focuses primarily on Lady Weeds and her transformation into the new Avatar of Metal. It's an unexpected twist for a character whose role in the series seemed finished not so long ago. Soule molds her into a chilling and compelling new threat, one who embraces her new position of power and develops a fun rapport with the Calculus drones. Her threat only grows bigger as the issue progresses and she gathers more allies to her side.
